Product Manager
Melbourne or Sydney. First product hire. Build an enterprise level AI solution from the ground up. Venture back SaaS.
About the role
Product Manager
Sydney or Melbourne, remote-first
$180,000 to $200,000 plus super
Spikewerks is an enterprise AI company building spikeOS, a platform that lets large regulated organisations use AI on information they can actually trust.
The problem is a familiar one. The information that matters within a big business sits in four places that do not talk to each other: market data, documents such as contracts and statements, operational systems, and the spreadsheets people work in every day. A data warehouse joins up the numbers and leaves the documents behind. A language model pointed at a folder of PDFs can read them, but it cannot calculate or show where an answer came from.
spikeOS sits in between. It reads from all four sources, extracts the facts, and stores them as structured records, with every field linking back to the page or reading it came from. Nothing is written without an owner's approval.
The company is live in two industries. Energy, working with generators, asset owners and retailers. And lending, through a partnership with a loan management platform that reaches a large share of Australia's non-bank lenders.
The role
This is the first product hire at Spikewerks.
spikeOS becomes useful to an industry through a domain pack: the standard version of the product for that sector, covering the data it works with, the systems it connects to, the checks that matter in that industry and the outputs it produces. Lending has a pack. Energy is getting one.
The Product Manager owns them. What goes in, in what order, and what gets declined.
That last part is the job. With engineers going into the field and new clients starting from the packs, someone has to decide what becomes standard and what stays with one customer. Without that, the product becomes the sum of every client's request.
The role reports to the CEO and works alongside the CTO, writing the requirements directly: extraction logic, rule libraries, evaluation sets. The CTO reviews them and owns how they get built.
What Spikewerks is looking for
Things to know
Spikewerks is early. There is no product roadmap to inherit, which is both the appeal and the workload. The team is small and growing quickly. This is a first-ten hire with direct access to the founders.

What Spikewerks is looking for
- A product manager who writes technical specifications. Data models, interface specs, rules, how accuracy gets measured
- Experience in B2B or enterprise product, not consumer
- A roadmap that reflects a view of where the product should go, rather than a queue of customer requests
- The confidence to say no, including to a paying customer
- The ability to explain a regulated industry they knew nothing about two years ago, and how they turned it into product
